Obviously we could not pass by without us Beijing traveling to the Great Wall of China , new wonder of the world, and last great mythical site which our journey takes us. We have performed a march of 10 km on the wall between sites Jinshanling and Simatai , a little more than a hundred kilometers of Beijing. If it has been lovingly restored in places, other passages are in ruins, which gives some authenticity to this short hike. The wall is constantly up and down, marrying the relief of the hills on top of which it was built, thus giving rise to very steep passages, but still overlooking the valleys below, with stunning outlook. Unfortunately, we have not been spoiled by the weather conditions, since a huge cloud of dust swept across the whole region in recent days, reducing visibility to almost nothing, and limiting views. It was as extreme heat, over 35 degrees in the shade and not a breath of air, which made walking much more challenging than our worst elevations in the Himalayas. We somehow reached Simatai after 3 hours of effort and many liters of sweat expenses, but it was worth the shot, it's still not every day that we have the opportunity to walk on Great Wall! After all, as Mao said, "He who has not climbed the Great Wall can be a great man" ...
If the Great Wall is less impressive at first glance that sites such as Machu Picchu or the Taj Mahal, its vastness is breathtaking! After walking 10 km, we had obviously traveled a small part, but it is quite sufficient to account for the size of this monumental work, fabulous heritage of the oldest civilization still in existence.
